Welcome to Sweet & Spicy Kitchn

I love baking & cooking. Not so much into cleaning after the baking and cooking, but let’s not get into that. A little over a decade ago, I married Jay, my wonderful husband. It was not until that I met him, that I was really interested in cooking so much. He loves to cook as well, he is a foodie for sure, although vegetarian, he can explore and eat different dishes that can be turned into a vegetarian dish. Jay is an excellent photographer as well. Even though for now it’s a hobby for him, I think he can certainly take on professional photography. We have our two adorable and sweet boys, Roshan (7) and Rohaan (3), and we have learned they both like the kitchen area of our house a lot. We try to teach them all about food, they may not get all thing now, but we must start somewhere. Roshan helps with cooking, like stirring, adding given ingredients, so I say that’s a start. As for Rohaan, we think he likes the pots, pans & utensils more than his toys.

My grandfather back in the 1940’s owed a small restaurant in Surat, India. He had an Indian dish specialty called ‘Khamni’ and people new him by the name of Chotu-Khamni. So, I am thinking I got my genes for cooking from him. My grandma, my mom, and even my mother-in-law are all wonderful cooks. Both, my husband and I have learned a lot using their cooking technics and their recipes.

I got into baking a year or two before my first son was born. At first, I was making the boxed cake a lot, but as I got to learn more and more interesting facts about baking, I told myself, that I need to make the cakes from scratch. Though a slow process, with lot of attempts at baking with different flours, and all different ingredients and tools available, I am learning to grow my baking knowledge and am getting better with each try. Baking is a happy time for me. I have been baking cakes each year for my son’s birthday, and it’s great because I can bake according to his liking of current flavor and his current favorite toy/movie/character. So far, six cakes for my elder son and two cakes for my little one, and I will continue that trend and keep on baking.

We are the team behind Sweet & Spicy Kitchn. Some are here with us today, some are not, some are still learning to cook, some may take more time to learn, but we are going to fill this blog with lots and lots of yummy recipes.  We hope you enjoy our website and that you find a recipe that you love.
