Hot Chocolate Bombs

Hot Chocolate Bombs

I love chocolate and hot cocoa and anything related to chocolate, but specifically chocolate in milk, whether it is hot or cold, I just love it. So what better then Hot Cocoa Bombs! Since I am a baker, it did not take long to think that I should make them. So I made one batch then two, then three, they were a hit in my house. Myself, my 6 year and even my 2 year old loved it. Even my sister and my nephew who were visiting, enjoyed them a lot. They are easy to make, just a bit of hard work and the yumminess is in the tummy.

Then I decided to make them and sell them in my neighborhood. And to my surprise, the response was amazing. I was overwhelmed by the appreciation and the number of orders received. I loved making the chocolate bombs for all who ordered. I very much appreciate the support that the neighbors showed and I can’t thank them enough, but Thank you!

Hot Chocolate Bombs

Hot chocolate bombs are chocolate spheres filled with hot chocolate mix and lots of marshmallows. When you pour hot milk into the mug over the bombs, the chocolate melts and magically releases the marshmallows and cocoa hiding inside.

  • Piping Bag

Materials

  • Chocolate Chips or Bar
  • Instant Hot Cocoa Mix
  • Mini Marshmallows
  • Melted Chocolate/Royal Sugar Icing
  • Sprinkles of your choice

Instructions

MELTING THE CHOCOLATE

  • If using chocolate bars, chop as finely as possible
  • If using chocolate chips, leave them as is.
  • Place the chocolate in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave for 30-second intervals, stirring and scraping after each interval, until melted.

MOLDING THE COCOLATE

  • Place a spoonful of the melted chocolate into a sphere mold. Use the brush to smooth the chocolate to cover the inside of the mold with a thin layer. Place in the fridge for 5 minutes to set.
  • After 5 minutes, take out of the refrigerator and apply a second coat of chocolate, paying special attention to the edges to build them up a bit so the molds have a strong edge. Then place in the refrigerator for ~30 minutes for the chocolate to fully set.
  • When the chocolate has fully hardened, gently press it out of the molds.

MAKING THE CHOCOLATE BOMBS

  • Add a small amount of instant hot cocoa powder to the half sphere.
  • Followed by adding mini marshmallows
  • And/or (optional) any alternate fillings of your choice.
  • Dip the edges or add a thin line of melted chocolate around the edges of an empty half sphere. This will make the ‘glue’ to hold the two sides together.
  • Gently hold it on a filled half so the edges are touching. Use brush or spoon to smear the chocolate to secure the seam. Then allow them to set.
  • Caution: if the bombs start melting from holding it, then place it in the refrigerator for about 5 minutes and then rework.

DECORATING THE BOMBS

  • Pipe the melted chocolate or royal sugar icing (thick consistency) on the top of the bombs to make drizzles. then add some sprinkles. Decorations can be of your choice.
  • Add some sprinkles. Decorations can be of your choice.
  • Place the ready bomb in a mug and pour hot milk over it to enjoy the yummy hot chocolate or store it in the refrigerator for later use. Check out video below.

Notes

I have not measured the ingredients as that depends on how many bombs you are making, how thick or thin the layer is. Additionally, the chocolate mix and the marshmallows can differ in amount based on your taste.
